International Academic Competitions is pleased to announce the 2021 Winter tournaments will take place in the form of online Team vs. Team competition. Teams will be limited to four players. Teams of three, two, or one player are welcomed to compete.
In order to compete in the History Bowl, you must be 19 years or younger at the time of the competition. You must also be enrolled in a primary or secondary school at the time of your regional tournament (or have graduated within the past two months, and not yet have started university studies).
For the 2020-2021 academic year, in order to compete in the Junior Varsity Division of the History Bowl, all team members must have been born in September 2004 or more recently. If you wish to compete in the Middle School division, all team members must have been born in September 2006 or more recently.
There is no younger age limit – a brilliant and well-behaved 8 year-old is welcome to compete. Also, younger students can play on a Varsity or Junior Varsity team, but ALL players on a younger team must fulfill that division’s age requirements. All players on the same team must currently attend the SAME SCHOOL. If players are homeschooled for the 2020-21 school year due to COVID-19, they can compete for the school they attended during the 2019-20 school year.
Likewise, there is no limit on types of schools – local, international, public, private, religious, and schools abroad following a home country curriculum are all welcome.
Schedule (UTC/GMT +8):
All teams will be guaranteed to play in at least 5 preliminary round matches. The exact tournament format will be determined after the registration deadline.
The rules for the Online History Bowl will remain largely the same as our physical History Bowl rules. There will be minor changes to the bonuses and lightning rounds. Please see rules sheet for more details.
Top three teams in each division will receive plaques. All students will receive a digital Certificate of Participation.
Asian Championships Qualification:
The top 2/3 (including ties) of teams in each division will qualify for the 2020-21 IAC Asian Championships. Teams that win more than half of their prelim matches will also qualify.
Students who cancel their registration for free prior to the registration deadline. Students dropping after May 22, 2021 owe 100% of their registration fees.
