For the 2018-2019 academic year, IHBB is pleased to announce a new set of competitions that will allow students to compete intramurally (i.e. at their own school) while qualifying for the Asian Championships in the International History Bee and Bowl. These will work in two separate models and are intended to provide competition opportunities to schools in regions throughout Asia where we are not planning on holding full all-day International History Bee and Bowl tournaments.
Option A: Intramural Qualifying Exam Only Competitions
These will be offered to schools located at least 100 kilometers from any planned tournament site. Students will take a 20 minute long, 50 question multiple choice exam on all aspects of world history. The top 6 students in each age division at a school will qualify for our 2019 Asian Championships in the International History Bee; the top student in each age division will also qualify for the 2020 International History Olympiad. Participating schools may also send 1 International History Bowl team to the Asian Championships per age division. These competitions will be offered free of charge, with the exam being accessed either online through a code sent to teachers / administrators, or via a PDF file (which schools would then need to print out and grade for each student, and then report scores back to us).
Option B: Intramural Qualifying Exam Plus Regional International History Bee Tournament
In select regions where we will not be offering a full day-long International History Bee and Bowl tournament, we will offer the Intramural Qualifying Exam, and then the top 50% of students at a school in each age division, OR anyone scoring a 50 or above on the exam, is welcome to come and compete at a regional International History Bee only tournament. The Intramural Qualifying Exam will be offered free of charge, though the Regional International History Bee only tournament will cost $25 USD per student (or equivalent in local currency).
Schools participating in this way can also send up to 1 International History Bowl team to the Asian Championships per age division; students scoring in the top 50% in their age division at the Regional International History Bee only tournament will also qualify for the 2019 Asian Championships and the 2020 International History Olympiad.
More information on these options will be available shortly. For further questions, please email Mr. Suopeng Gao at firstname.lastname@example.org.
